trilogy that I reviewed, Ecko Rising, this novel is a delectable soup of fantasy and science fiction.

We first met Ware’s character, Ecko, in “Ecko Rising”. Ecko is an assassin ,and at the end of Book one he is trapped in another reality.

The first pages of show us that Ecko isn’t just trapped in a fantasy world; he’s unsure of what is real. It’s become increasingly difficult to tell where his home reality is.

With no escape in sight, Ecko teams up with his companions to hunt down weapons and an exit route. Jolted from his fuming anger, he embarks upon the journey almost reluctantly.

The journey is reminiscent of the one undertaken by Neo in The Matrix Trilogy.

On the other hand, Ecko’s friend the Bard, has been unceremoniously dumped in a steam punk dystopian London. He’s more of a curious adventures than a trapped traveller though.

Ware keeps the reader unsettled; she sends us back and forth between words. Just like Ecko – the reader begins to question what is real and what is fantasy.

Ware’s writing is complex and intriguing. This is the kind of book you’ll want to enjoy with a coffee and snacks. You will not want to get up and put the book down!
